Belle Isle DC Fast Charge (DCFC) is the only high-power DCFC location east of downtown in the city of Detroit.

Belle Isle DCFC is owned and operated by Diatomic Energy, LLC (Diatomic).

Diatomic was founded in 2019 to reduce carbon emissions from local transportation and energy sector sources.

​

Diatomic does site-planning, installation, operation, and management of EV charging stations to help reduce carbon emissions from the local transportation sector.

​

To accomplish our energy sector mission, Diatomic uses carbon-free renewable energy to offset beyond-tailpipe EV emissions due to the fossil fuel content of Michigan's electricity grid (~60% coal and natural gas combined).

​

Belle Isle DCFC, located at the Belle Isle Nature Center, is not funded by the MDNR, the city of Detroit, or the Nature Center.

Diatomic established the Belle Isle DCFC entirely as a grass roots initiative to provide urban access to EV infrastructure.

 

In the four years needed for planning and construction of Belle Isle DCFC, the dominant players in EV infrastructure have placed DCFC stations neither on the east side of Detroit, nor the west side.

The Belle Isle DCFC Project aims to address the pressing need for accessible and convenient EV charging infrastructure in urban areas, especially within the vibrant city of Detroit.
