BEYOND-TAILPIPE EMISSIONS
An EV with a fuel economy of 0.34 kWh/mile needs
5,100 kWh to drive 15,000 miles.
Coal and natural gas burned to meet this annual demand
produce 4,864 pounds of CO2.
The carbon footprint of a 0.34 kWh/mile EV is only
~56% lower than a 26.4 mpg gas vehicle.
While this is progress, there is an opportunity to
do much better by using renewable energy.

Because the fossil fuel composition of grid electricity mix
varies from one State to another,
the national average grid electricity mix is assumed in the comparison.
